RED RIBBON WEEK

RED RIBBON WEEK

Healthy Living and Making Good Choices!!
OCTOBER 21-25

Every October more than 80 million young people and adults show their commitment to a healthy lifestyle by wearing or displaying a
red ribbon. Once again this year, the Holmdel Drug and Alcohol Alliance will be sponsoring activities for Red Ribbon Week. At Village School, we have organized activities that stress the
importance of healthy living and making good choices along with the “Bee” A Bucket Filler NOT A Bully Campaign. We look forward to your child’s participation and we encourage you, as parents,
to help us build healthy and safe futures for our children.

Tuesday, October 15 – Show Good Character coloring page
Your child will come home with a coloring page. Please have your child write/draw “their favorite character” doing or eating something healthy.
Please return the coloring page to school by Friday, October 18th. They will be displayed throughout the school.
Monday, October 21 – HEALTHY LIVING MAKES CENTS
WEAR YOUR FAVORITE TEAM JERSEY/SHIRT to TEAM UP AGAINST BULLIES as the grades compete in change wars! In the lunch room there will be a coin jar for each grade to receive donations for the CAP (Child Assault Program) initiative. We invite your children to donate coins to this wonderful program sponsored by the Holmdel Drug and Alcohol Alliance. The CAP program is a statewide community based prevention program. “All children deserve to be safe, strong and free.” The program seeks to reduce children’s vulnerability to abuse, neglect and bullying by providing prevention workshops for the students. Kindergartners will have donation jars in their classrooms and coin jars will be available for the entire week.
Tuesday, October 22 -‘‘SOCK IT’’ TO UNHEALTHY LIVING
During lunch, children will be invited to wear red socks or shoes and stomp out unhealthy choices (smoking, obesity, junk food, etc.) by stomping on bubble wrap.
Wednesday, October 23 – Take A Stand. Lend a Hand– Bee A Bucket Filler!
We invite the children and staff to WEAR RED to acknowledge their commitment to Red Ribbon Week. During lunch the children will be invited to take the pledge and take a stand against bullying. The children will sign their names on large banners that will then be displayed in the hallway by the cafeteria.
All Students will receive an anti-bullying bookmarks courtesy of The Holmdel Alliance Committee.
Thursday, October 24 — Don’t Let Junk Food Turn You Inside Out — LUNCH BREAK OF RED BANK COLLECTION
hildren are invited to wear their clothes inside out to school today to show their commitment to healthy eating! Additionally, Village School will be collecting goods to help Lunch Break of Red Bank, which distributes meals to over 350 families each month from their food pantry. We encourage your children to help others who are less fortunate make healthy choices by providing them with healthy food. Students are asked to donate the following:

Juice boxes Small cans of fruit Small cans of vegetables
Spaghetti sauce Instant potatoes Pasta
Canned tuna Pancake mix Coffee, tea

Parents please encourage your children to explain to you what the activities of Red Ribbon Week mean to them.
By reaching one child, one family, one community, we are building a better future for our country. We look forward to a fun and educational Red Ribbon celebration at Village School and we
